What is Candida?

Candida (Candidiasis) is a family of yeasts and is the most common cause of fungal infections. Many species are harmless and can live in the body, specifically the gut, without a problem. However, when mucosal barriers are disrupted or the immune system is compromised, they can invade and cause disease. Candida albicans are the most commonly isolated species. The most common ways to develop an overgrowth of Candida are

  • Antibiotic use
  • Chlorine from swimming pools
  • Alcohol, especially beer, red wine, vodka
  • Use of cortisone or prednisone
  • Regular eating of Candida-promoting foods, such as bread, chocolate, alcohol, sugar, vinegar, cheese, milk, nuts, coffee, apples, grapes, and bananas
  • Hormonal birth control
  • Direct pesticide exposure
  • Heavy metal exposure or fillings
  • Having lived or worked in a moldy building
  • Excessive milk intake

How Candida Spreads and Gets Worse

Candida is a type of yeast that lives on your body. Candida infection can occur when yeast is overgrowth due to an imbalance of healthy bacteria and yeast in your body. Candida infection can spread in various ways. Invasive candidiasis occurs when Candida yeast enters your bloodstream and spreads to internal organs. This usually happens through a cut, sexual activity, but could also occur when a medical device is inserted into your skin or gastrointestinal tract. Examples include a catheter draining fluid from your body or an IV that delivers nutrition or medication.

Candida albicans infections can spread to different hosts if you have a weakened immune system or are taking certain medications. However, you will unlikely spread a Candida albicans infection if you are healthy.

Can Candida Be Left Untreated?

If left untreated, candida infection may lead to health problems such as skin infections, fatigue, oral thrush, gastrointestinal issues, and invasive candidiasis. In addition, if an overgrowth of Candida is left untreated, it can enter your bloodstream and travel throughout your entire body. Candida can infect bones and joints when this happens, causing pain, stiffness, and swelling.

Eliminating A Candida Infection Naturally

Muscle testing allows us to identify your Candida and how strong the infection is. To treat the symptoms naturally, we have to determine the cause. For example, suppose a diabetic person has unmanaged blood sugars. High blood sugars are a source of food for Candida. To eliminate the infection, we must adjust the chemical imbalance in the body on a cellular level.

That is why muscle testing is so efficient. It helps us determine exactly which natural remedies we have to apply. If you have ever purchased an over-the-counter solution that didn't work, that's why. Our natural remedies are targeted to the exact needs of your body to restore health and wellness.

There is a full Candida cleanse with a special diet that cuts a lot of foods out. But when patients come to the office, we muscle test them to see their specific Candida diet. Every Candida diet is different. For example, some Candida diets allow vinegar, and others don't. Some allow berries, and others don't. Everyone is different, and that's why a custom-made cleanse is nice to have. This may include supplementation and dietary changes during the healing phase, which may include:

  • Vegetables - all kinds. No corn, potato, or sweet potato.

  • Starches - including beans, rice, lentils, quinoa, spelt, millet, and buckwheat (bread of these grains, if no added malt or yeast).

  • Meat, poultry, fish, and eggs - choose organic, grass-fed, pasture-raised when available. Veal and lamb are the safest meats if you don't have organic meat available. Avoid tuna.

  • Dairy - grass-fed butter and ghee. Substitute coconut milk or almond milk for cow, sheep, or goat milk.

  • Fruit - fresh lemon, lime

  • Spices - green herbs which come from dried leaves, such as basil, thyme, rosemary, oregano, etc. Black pepper, salt, garlic, ginger, paprika, turmeric.

  • Healthy Fats - unrefined coconut, olive, avocado, flax, sesame, etc.

  • Nuts and seeds low in mold- almonds, sunflower seeds, coconut, or flaxseed.

  • Condiments- Apple cider vinegar, coconut aminos, and sauerkraut.

  • Non-caffeinated beverages- Herbal teas, chicory coffee, filtered/bottled water, and water infused with lemon or lime.

  • Let me clarify no alcohol, caffeine, sugar, or sugar substitutes like coconut sugar, stevia, honey, etc.
